The Sands Hotel and Casino

The Sands Hotel and Casino operated on the Las Vegas strip from 1952 to 1996.

Back then, casinos and resorts relied on eye-catching marquees to advertise their entertainers, shows, dinners, and other amenities. These classic signs were a staple of the golden era of entertainment, serving as glamorous beacons of light and lettering that beckoned audiences into the exciting world of showbiz.

In this image, we see legends of the 1960s Rat Pack era—Dean Martin and likely his buddies Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., along with other entertainers like Martin Denny, Dave Burton, and the Ernie Stewart Trio. The Sands was famous for hosting unforgettable performances with A-list headliners, bringing a “who’s who” of talent to the stage. This particular shot was likely taken in the early 1960s when the Sands was the heart of Vegas nightlife.

Marquees like this didn’t just promote shows; they captured the glitz, glamour, and spirit of Las Vegas itself. Today, they remain iconic symbols of an era when the Strip beamed with classic flair.

SALT LAKE CITY (October 2024) – YESCO, the 104-year-old company known for creating, repairing and maintaining internationally recognizable signs, announces it has fabricated and installed signage for Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs, Colorado. YESCO’s scope of work included the fabrication and installation of a 31-foot-long illuminated stage sign on an existing structure. The sign was built using halo illuminated reverse channel letters, ensuring high visibility and energy efficiency of the iconic Ford oval logo. The second stage sign measuring 50 feet wide included an illuminated logo cabinet, bringing an even greater bold visual identity to the amphitheater. Lastly, YESCO installed two sets of halo illuminated reverse channel letters on entrance arches to brilliantly welcome guests to the amphitheater.

“Bringing the Ford brand to life on such a large scale has been a rewarding challenge,” said Jeff Young, executive vice president, YESCO. “The sheer size and impact of these signs reflect the bold and resilient spirit of Ford Amphitheater, making it an unmistakable landmark for Colorado Springs.”

“Ford Amphitheater is more than just a venue, it’s a must-visit destination for music lovers nationwide” said Bob Mudd, senior vice president of construction and market expansion for VENU. “YESCO brought our vision to life, creating signage that will serve as a lasting landmark for years to come.”
