YESCO Refurbishes Utah State University Tower Signs in Logan, Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (September 2024) – YESCO, the 104-year-old company known for creating, repairing and maintaining internationally recognizable signs, announces it has completely refurbished Utah State University’s tower signs in Logan, Utah.

YESCO began by removing all of the old LED strips and installing brand-new RGB LED strips on all four sides of the university’s tower, displaying the glowing letter “A” for Utah State’s Aggies. A control box was also supplied and installed, allowing the display to feature university colors, white and Aggie blue.

Lastly, YESCO installed a stem-mounted photocell, automatically activating the LED illumination at dusk and turning it off at dawn. Work on the retrofitting project began on June 24 and took more than 236 man-hours of labor to complete.

FUN FACTS:

  • The first block “A” light was Utah State University’s first senior gift, awarded by the graduating class of 1909.
  • Each letter “A” measures approximately 12-feet-wide x 14-feet-tall.
  • The original “A” light contained 146 candle light bulbs and was affixed to the west side of the tower.
  • “This project is a blend of tradition and innovation – honoring Utah State University’s legacy while integrating cutting-edge RGB LED technology,” said Jeff Young, executive vice president, YESCO. “The new signage not only enhances the visibility and vibrancy of the tower but also allows for dynamic displays that reflect the university’s spirit.”
  • “Lighting of the ‘A’ atop Utah State University’s Old Main has been a cherished Aggie tradition throughout our history,” said Ben Berrett, associate vice president for USU Facilities. “YESCO made a great effort to work with our dedicated Facilities team to make sure this tradition continues without interruption. We view the lighting of the Old Main ‘A’ as a way to show the world our success as a campus community.”

SALT LAKE CITY (September 2024) – YESCO, the 104-year-old company known for creating, repairing and maintaining internationally recognizable signs, announces it has completely retrofitted all neon lighting with LED illumination on the Brigham Gateway Arch sign in Brigham City, Utah.

Work on the retrofitting project began on Thursday, Aug. 1 and took more than 202 man-hours of labor to complete. The 7-foot-tall by 32-foot-wide display now includes red, yellow, green, and white LED, illuminating the words “Welcome to Brigham, Gateway to the World’s Greatest Wild Bird Refuge.” In addition to updating the lighting, YESCO also repainted the sign with custom colors hand-selected by our painter.

FUN FACTS:

  • The Brigham Gateway Arch was originally installed in September 1928 by YESCO.
  • Steel girders were hoisted into place 23-feet above the street.
  • In December 1928, the sign was temporarily taken down and replicated with newer materials. This renovation was also completed by YESCO.

“YESCO is honored to have played a pivotal role in the history of the Brigham Gateway Arch, from its original creation in 1928 to its multiple renovations over nearly 100 years,” said Jeff Young, executive vice president, YESCO. “Retrofitting the neon lighting with modern LED technology will ensure its brilliance for generations to come.”

“The arch was installed in 1928 to commemorate the establishment that same year of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge at the request of the community. It has been an icon of our community ever since,” said Paul Larson, community and economic development director, Brigham City. “The upgrade will ensure that the arch is lit more consistently during periods of bad weather, and will ensure that it remains a symbol of Brigham City for decades to come.”

“The Brigham Arch is iconic; it’s a part of our culture and our identity,”  said DJ Bott, mayor, Brigham City. “We all know and love the arch, and now with the LED lighting we will enjoy all of our arch all the time.”
