Flag Flying High Again on the Kennecott Flagpole in McGill

For the first time in over 60 years, the flag is proudly flying again from the historic Kennecott flagpole in McGill, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the McGill Town Council and YESCO.

The 83-foot-tall flagpole presented a significant challenge for the community, as most local bucket trucks could only reach 60 feet. Even the Ely Fire Department’s ladder truck fell short by about 10 feet. Determined to bring the flag back to this iconic site, the McGill Town Council reached out to YESCO.

Excited about the history and significance of the flagpole to the McGill community, YESCO volunteered their services free of charge. The team threaded the new rope through the old pulley at the top—after lubricating it to ensure smooth operation—took detailed photos of the handmade copper ball, and even trimmed overgrown branches from a nearby tree encroaching on the pole.

The McGill Town Council, along with the residents, expressed heartfelt gratitude to YESCO for their generosity, expertise, and willingness to contribute to this meaningful project.

This proud moment symbolizes not just the raising of a flag, but the spirit of collaboration and pride in preserving McGill’s history for generations to come.
