Ritz Classic Apartments
Concept to Completion
Weidner Apartment Homes came to YESCO with a very special project: refurbish the iconic Ritz Classic Bowling Pin sign that had stood on State Street in South Salt Lake since 1958. The goal was to use the well-known landmark to mark the entryway to the new Ritz Classic Apartments.
Upon investigation we learned existing code would not allow for a new sign at the same height. After long discussions with South Salt Lake officials, the customer was granted a permit variance given the sign’s historical value. YESCO received permission to rebuild the sign at its original height of 90 feet.
The challenge presented to designer, Glery Becerra, was to design the rebuilt display with the look of a classic 1950’s sign using modern technology to achieve a fresh new appearance with a vintage feel. Glery successfully completed the task by incorporating LED tube lighting on the perimeter of the pin and the interior channel letters.
The customer is very happy with the results and the City still has a replica of a very classic Salt Lake City icon.
